Doug is Chairman of “The Smollan Group” which was founded by Doug’s father, Fred Smollan, in 1931. The Smollan Group employs roughly 50 000 people and has a presence in 5 (five) continents.
He is passionate about South Africa, its people and its development. He served as President of Young Presidents Organisation Worldwide in 1994/1995, the second Non-American to do so in 50 (fifty) years, at that time he was Chairman of Business Against Crime (“BAC”), Gauteng in 1997. In 2000, he joined BAC’s National Board. Doug heads up the Consumer Goods Council of South Africa Anti-Crime initiative. Doug is a Pioneer of the Nelson Mandela: “The Champion Within” Program with Life College to develop R1,000,000 (one million rand) champions by 2020.
